N. Αγαπητοί ακροατές, χαίρετε. In the last lesson you learned the names of the months and the seasons of the year. I hope you remember them, because I'm going to ask you to use some of them in an exercise with the words πριν και μετά. But let me first say something about these words. We have already used them in phrases like:

Ε. Πριν τρεις ώρες              Three hours ago

N. three hours ago

A. Μετά πέντε λεπτά              After five minutes

Ε. Πριν πολλά χρόνια              Many years ago

Α. Πριν έξι μήνες              Six months ago

Ε. Μετά μια εβδομάδα              In (after) one week

Ν. In other sentences πριν and μετά are usually followed by the preposition από.

Πριν από --               before

Μετά από --               after

E. Γυρίζω στο σπίτι πριν από τον άντρα μου.              I return to the house before my husband.

A. Φεύγω από το σπίτι μετά από τον πατέρα μου.              I leave from the house after my father.

E. Πηγαίνω στο γραφείο πριν από τον διευθυντή.              I go to the office before the manager.

A. Ακούτε μουσική πριν από το μάθημα και μετά από το μάθημα.

              You (pl.) hear music before the lesson and after the lesson.

N. Η μουσική               the music             

E. Πριν και μετά από κάθε μάθημα ακούτε μουσική.              Before and after every lesson you (pl.) hear music.

N. In the following exercise you will complete the sentences you
hear by adding the name of the month or season. These will come
after a preposition, so you use the accusative form, of course.

E. Ο Μάιος είναι πριν από τον … Ιούνιο.              May is before June.

A. Ο Αύγουστος είναι πριν από … τον Σεπτέμβριο.              August is before September.

Ε. Ο Μάρτιος είναι μετά από τον … Φεβρουάριο.              March is after February.

Α. Ο Νοέμβριος είναι πριν από … τον Δεκέμβριο.              November is before December.

Ε. Το καλοκαίρι είναι μετά από … την άνοιξη.              The summer is after the spring.

Α. Το φθινόπωρο είναι πριν από … τον χειμώνα.              Autumn is before winter.

Ν. Σας ευχαριστώ. While still on the subject of seasons and months, let's talk about the weather, ο καιρός. We have had weather and good weather.

Καλός καιρός και κακός καιρός.               Good weather and bad (evil) weather

The word κακός is all right here, but κακός usually refers to evil.
