HOW TO INSTALL LOCAL CHARACTER SET SUPPORT FOR YOUR HP DESKJET PRINTER (1/30/95) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: To print this file, type PRINT README.TXT at the DOS (A:>) prompt. (The default [PRN] is LPT1. IF you have connected the printer to another port, enter that port in the command line, for example, type PRINT README.TXT > LPT2 for parallel port 2). ====================================================================== CONTENTS ====================================================================== This disk contains custom data files for the HP DeskJet Control Panel for DOS that allow access to special character sets. One of these special groups of character sets is included in the localized printers for certain countries. The following groups of character sets are supported on this disk: Arabic - Arabic 8, Latin Arabic (Code Page 864) Baltic - Latvian/Russian, Lithuanian/Russian, Code Page 772 Cyrillic - ISO 8859/5 Latin Cyrillic, PC Cyrillic (Code Page 866) Greek - ISO 8859/7 Latin/Greek, PC-8 Greek Hebrew - ISO 8859/8 Latin/Hebrew, Latin Hebrew (Code Page 862) Each group of character sets is in its own directory on the disk. You will only need the one file that supports your particular language. This file must match the character sets that are built in to your printer. If you are uncertain which character sets are built in to your printer, check for one of the following 3 letter codes located on the serial label on the back of your printer: Arabic - ARB Cyrillic - CYR Greek - GRK Hebrew - HBR Latvian - LTV Lithuanian - LIT Please follow the directions below to install the correct file for your printer. ====================================================================== INSTALLATION DIRECTIONS ====================================================================== If you have not yet installed the printer driver software for your printer, please do so at this time. Then do the following: Find the appropriate subdirectory on this disc that matches the character sets in your printer. Copy the file named SYMSETS.DAT from this subdirectory to the C:\DESKJET directory. Note that there are multiple files on this disk named SYMSETS.DAT, but you should only copy the ONE file that matches your printer. Example: to install support for Cyrillic character sets, first check for the CYR code on the printer's serial label. Then, assuming this floppy disk is in the A: drive, type COPY A:\CYRILLIC\SYMSETS.DAT C:\DESKJET {Enter} This will include the Cyrillic character sets as possible choices in the Character Set box in the HP DeskJet Control Panel for DOS.
