What is it and how do we get it?

aw it listed for the two latest uploads had the program that creates it isn't
available. nterested if it's among the last thing that meets is planning
to release for the 128 if in fact that meets did write it. .

Richard -
SDA.230 is the utility that was used (in conjunction with ARC230) to create
those files you've seen. SDA.230 is file #3249 in our library, and it also a
self-dissolving ARC file. After you LOAD and RUN it, it will break into the
following files: SDA.ASM - Source code for SDA SDA230.64 - SDA for the C-
64 SDA230.128 - SDA for the C-128 SDA230.PET - SDA for PET computers
(BASIC 4.0) SDA.PC - SDA instructions in PaperClip format SDA.TXT - SDA
instructions in standard text format CONTENTS - This list of contents

All it takes to create a self-dissolving ARC is to attach one of the machine-
specific SDA files to the beginning of an ARC file (in accordance with the
instruction file).
I plan on using it for all of my future uploads, as it removes the need for
the person downloading the file to have either ARC or LIBRARY utilities.
  I hope you enjoy it!
I do not think that this is Chris Smeets' final program, since we do not
have a full blown ARC for the C-128. (Heck, I've been wrong before, so dont
listen to a word I'm telling you! hehe)

found it later, impressive for the added speed even it n the 64 mode. this
should help with the x-modem padding for the compiled files too, seems like
just having this will help a whole lot until the 128 arc dom comes out.

Here's a strange one ...

I downloaded some new uploads from the library for testing. The 64 versions
of the SDAs all dissolved just fine. But the 128 SDAs will just show me the
title/credit screen and freeze at the "Hit any key to continue or ESC to
abort" prompt. Totally locks the computer up.

It's happened on a few other 128 SDA files before, too, so this isn't the
first time. Any ideas on what's going on? If it helps, I'm using my C128
with a 1571, Mach 128 (both in and out) and the 128 Super Chip <yawn>.

  Thanks for any help.

Are you sure that those ARE 128 SDA's? Sometimes people will SDA 128 programs
in a 64 SDA. Usually, this will just result in a crash into the monitor if
you try to run them in 128 mode, but I suppose it is possible that they would
load the title and lock up. Easy enough to check, anyway.

I've had spurious reports of the new ARC 2.50 not working correctly when its
not dissolved on the same configuration it was created on...

I have NOT been able to duplicate or track it down, tho. Suppose that might
be one of the problems?! Possibly it might be your disk cartridges, too,
Dave.

Yep, they're 128 SDAs, at least according to the SYS address when listed. To
be sure, I did try them in 64 mode. And I've tried them with and without my
Mach 128 cartridge. No go. My last bet is to take apart the 128 and pull out
my 128 Super Chip. No great loss, but it's just a pain to take the thing
apart. And I don't see why a chip plugged into the extra socket (the programs
run out of BANK 4) would cause a problem with SDAs.

Well, maybe before you tear apart your 128....call up Chris Smeets and see if
he can figure out why?!

I hate tearing into Commodore computers. I have NEVER seen so many screws
holding down something of NO signifigance in my entire life!

I'm a little bit confused. First of all to make a self dissolving arc program
for the C-128 in 128 mode don't we need besides the sda232.128 program ALSO
the 128ARC program in 128 mode? I have made self dissolving 64 arc programs.
What about in the 128 mode?

Plus how do we get hold of the 128 arc program in 128 mode?

I wrote a letter to Chris about it but haven't heard yet anything!

Plus you can't go mixing 64 stuff with 128 stuff.

How do we make a title screen for self dissolving arcs. I take it we have to
load in the Title.Bas program and change around the logic to reflect what we
want to print out on the screen? If this is the case what a pain.

Plus after we have done this changing of the title screen how do we save the
tiltle screen to the self dissolving arc program so that the self dissolving
arc program knows to have a title screen??

Just confused a little bit.

You can create an SDA that will dissolve on the 128 in 128 mode with a 64. The
only difference is that you include the file called SDA.ML128 in the file
instead of the file SDA.ML.

I use the ARC/SDA AID program to create SDAs. It gives you a chance to do your
title screen while you are creating the SDA file. The instructions say you
can also use a word processor but I have never tried that. I hope this is of
some help

Bob: ARC64 and ARC128 ARC'd files are completely compatible...its just the
SDA programs which are machine specific.

Therefore, you can make the ARC with ARC 64 (whatever version, I use 2.30),
and tack the SDA232.128 file onto the beginning of it, and VOILA! you have a
C128 SDA file.

Deb & Ray:

Thanks for the info. I knew that the SDA's were machine specific but was
unsure about the C-64 & C-128 Arcs not being machine specific if this makes
any sense.

Good. Now I can make C-128 mode SDA's.

Thats what I stick with too-Arc 230. From Psychic Bob

This is the place for questions,
comments, hints, and tips for the:
     +SPARKLE SYSTEM
     +M.SPARKLE SYSTEM
     +40.SPARKLE SYSTEM
     These systems replace the previous
 Sparkle.lbr. For those who already
 have downloaded Sparkle.lbr, you can
look forward to even easier function
keys and a little better color usage.
     Though the function keys are
basically the same, you will find they
have been polished up from what they
started out as. ie. no more garbage
when scratching. I fixed that problem
and even added color on a couple keys.
To those who may have suffered
some confusion back in Dec. and early
 Jan. with the original Sparkle.sda,
I'm sorry but 3 files had been
missplaced in that version. Now every
thing is there including the binary
files. Again I'm very sorry for any
confusion this may have caused you.

     Don't knock! Come on in!
I'm gonna start out with a tip.
Sort of a sneaky way to get to put in
the first tip, doing it when I open
the topic, but what the heck!
If you find you want to run the
 Filecopy.bas from the ramdisk, just
load the filecopy.bas and list line
9100. Change the U=# to the unit #
that you run your ramdisk as and save
it as "+7fc". Then copy both the
+7fc and the filecopy.bin files into
the ramdisk. Get the directory with F3
and use F6 on +7fc as described in the
doc's. Presto! Before you can blink
 its running!

First I'd like to say I hope to see alot of use of this topic for CSDOS.

I love the system and whenever I'm in the 128 mode I use it almost 100% of the
time.

I am just getting into writing a EXEC file to log onto BBS to get my mail and
store it to disk and sign-off. Having used BT-PRO I have written several
macros for it. The problem I'm having with...
