1. Web Updates. Franklin Planner for Outlook can now check for updates automatically over the World Wide Web.
2. Conflicts with Franklin Planner Software Eliminated. If desired, you can now use both Franklin Planner Software for Windows and Franklin Planner for Outlook on the same machine without causing conflicts.
3. PocketPC support added.
4. What Matters Most Backup Utility. A utility has been added to enable backup of the What Matters Most .pst file.
5. Improved, Smart Installation.
· The installation program now checks for previously installed software such as Palm, Pocket PC, and Franklin Planner Software for Windows.
· The installation program now automatically detects the presence of Franklin Planner Software and prompts for data conversion to Franklin Planner for Outlook format.
· The installation program now detects the COM port used by the Palm device.
· Multiple Outlook profiles are now detected that so that you may choose which profile to install to.
· There is now a single installation program for Franklin Planner for Outlook, Palm and PocketPC/CE devices.
· The installation program will now prompt to add updated What Matters Most Palm applications to the Palm if upgrading from a previous version of Franklin Planner for Outlook.
· The installation program now detects previous Palm user name when installing the new Palm files.
6. Prioritized Daily Task List (PDTL)
· New Toolbar Navigation on the PDTL.
· New Toolbar Date Search controls have been added to the PDTL.
· An icon and menu item for Get Incomplete Tasks have been added to the PDTL.
· The auto-forward feature for Prioritized Daily Tasks now works correctly.
· Autoforwarded tasks on the PDTL now leave a copy of the original task on the date from which the task was forwarded.
7. Palm and Palm Synchronization.
· Support for Palm OS version 3.5. This includes support for color, highlighting, Masked Records and the Command Bar.
· Users may now synchronize with Palm devices when using International Dateformat environments.
The What Matters Most Backup File
When uninstalling Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook, you are prompted to create a backup of the WMM.PST file. This file contains your personal What Matters Most information (such as Values, Roles, Mission Statement and Long-Range Goals). If you choose to create a backup, the backup is automatically named WMM.PST.BAK.
When you use this file in the future (such as when you reinstall Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook), you must rename the file to WMM.PST, the original filename.
Installation Warning for Users of Windows NT or Windows 2000
If you are attempting to install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook on a Windows NT or Windows 2000 system and you have restricted rights, you will receive an error message and will not be able to install the application. If you have only User rights, you will receive an error message like the following:
"Setup failed to launch installation engine. Class not registered!"
Ensure that you have sufficient rights before attempting to install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook on a Windows NT or Windows 2000 system.
Reinstalling Franklin Planner for Pocket PC (PPC)/Windows CE
If you are reinstalling Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook and you choose the option to install Franklin Planner for Pocket PC, the path for the PPC files appears as a DOS path rather than a standard Windows path.
For example, you would see C:\PROGRA~1\FRANKL~1\OUTLOOK\PPC/CE instead of as the standard windows path C:\Program Files\Franklin Covey\Outlook\PPC/CE.
You may accept this “odd” path as it will not affect the proper installation of the Pocket PC files.
If you have been using your Palm organizer to HotSync with any other application except Microsoft Outlook, you may experience duplication of data after installing Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook unless you take steps to prevent it.
Following are several situations where data duplication could occur. We recommend you choose the option that best describes your situation, and follow the instructions to prevent data duplication as you synchronize your Palm organizer with Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.
q “I have been synchronizing my Palm organizer with Microsoft Outlook on my desktop computer, and I intend to install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook on the same computer.”
This is the simplest situation of all, and should not result in any data duplication.
1. Conduct HotSync before you install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook. This backs up all Palm data on Microsoft Outlook.
2. Install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.
3. Set HotSync Manager options to “Desktop overwrites Handheld” for all applications.
4. Conduct a HotSync operation.
q “I have been synchronizing my Palm organizer with Microsoft Outlook, but I have some ASCEND 97 or Franklin Planner Software for Windows data that I want to use with my Palm organizer.”
When you install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook, the installation program includes an option to convert data from Franklin Planner Software for Windows or ASCEND 97 into a format useable by Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.
Note: The following instructions apply only if you have been synchronizing your Palm organizer with Microsoft Outlook and want to import Franklin Planner Software for Windows or ASCEND 97 data. If you have been synchronizing your Palm with Franklin Planner Software for Windows or ASCEND 97, use the instructions in “I have been synchronizing my Palm device with Franklin Planner Software for Windows or ASCEND 97 …” below.
1. During installation of Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook, choose the option to convert Franklin Planner Software/ASCEND 97 data to a format useable by Microsoft Outlook. Follow the instructions.
2. After installing Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook, set HotSync Manager options to “Desktop overwrites Handheld” for all conduits.
3. Conduct a HotSync operation.
q “I have been synchronizing my Palm organizer with Microsoft Outlook, I have some ASCEND 97 or Franklin Planner Software for Windows data that I want to use with my Palm organizer, but I don’t want to convert the data yet.”
If you wish to install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook, but wish to wait until a future time to convert Franklin Planner Software/ASCEND 97 data, you can do this by choosing No at the point in the installation process where you are prompted to convert Franklin Planner Software/ASCEND 97 data.
You can run the data conversion utility later, separate from the Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook installation process. See “Running the Conversion Utility as a Standalone Application” in your User’s Guide for instructions.
q “I have been synchronizing my Palm organizer with another desktop organizer program [besides Microsoft Outlook, Franklin Planner Software, or ASCEND], such as Palm Desktop. I want to begin using Microsoft Outlook and Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook, and synchronizing my Palm organizer with Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.”
If you have been synchronizing your Palm with any other desktop organizer program except Microsoft Outlook, Franklin Planner Software, or ASCEND, and you want to synchronize it with Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook, follow these directions:
1. Conduct a HotSync operation between your desktop organizer program and your Palm device. This ensures that the same information is resident on both the desktop software and your Palm device, and gives you a backup in case you have problems with your Palm device.
3. Conduct a HotSync operation to install Franklin Covey applications on your Palm device, then conduct another HotSync operation to synchronize your information. Use the default HotSync options (synchronize the files).
4. The information on your Palm is transferred to Microsoft Outlook.
q “I just purchased a Palm organizer, I am not currently using another desktop software program, and I want to use my Palm organizer with Microsoft Outlook and Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.”
If you are not currently synchronizing your Palm device with any desktop software program (for example, you just bought the Palm device and the first synchronization you intend to do is with Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook), simply synchronize your Palm device with Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook after installation. Any information you have entered on your Palm or on Microsoft Outlook will be synchronized.
q “I have been synchronizing my Palm device with Franklin Planner Software for Windows or ASCEND 97, and I want to convert my Franklin Planner Software for Windows/ASCEND 97 data to Microsoft Outlook format and then synchronize the data with my Palm device.”
This is the most complex situation, and you have two options to prevent data duplication. If this situation applies to you, read these methods carefully before you install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.
§ First Method
Do not use this option unless you are not using add-on Palm organizer applications, or unless you don't mind reinstalling your other add-on applications.
The first method is to simply install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook. If the installation program detects that you have Franklin Planner Software for Windows installed on your computer, you will be prompted to choose whether to export your Franklin Planner Software for Windows/ASCEND 97 data to a format useable by Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook.
Then, perform a hard reset on your Palm organizer, then synchronize your Palm twice with Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook (the first synchronization installs Franklin Covey applications, while the second synchronizes the data). This eliminates the possibility for duplicate records; however, you will lose all add-on applications that you have on your Palm organizer as a result of the hard reset. Do not use this option unless you are not using add-on Palm organizer applications, or unless you don't mind reinstalling your add-on applications. You can, of course, use the Palm Install tool to reinstall your Palm add-on applications before conducting the first HotSync operation.
§ Second Method
The second method is more complex, but prevents duplication of records while preserving your other Palm organizer add-on applications.
1. Conduct a final HotSync operation to synchronize data between your Palm organizer and Franklin Planner Software/ASCEND 97. Now, all your information is safely resident in Franklin Planner Software/ASCEND 97.
2. Remove the Task List, FCLinkDB and other Franklin Covey applications (if any) from your Palm organizer. See your Palm organizer User's Guide for information on how to remove add-on applications.
3. Install Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook from the installation CD, insuring that you check the Franklin Planner for Palm option. During installation of Franklin Planner for Outlook, you will be prompted to choose whether to convert your Franklin Planner Software or ASCEND 97 data to a form useable by Microsoft Outlook. Choose Yes and follow the instructions. This will export your Franklin Planner Software/ASCEND 97 data to Franklin Planner for Outlook.
4. After installing Franklin Planner for Outlook (including installing Palm applications and conducting Franklin Planner Software data conversion), conduct a HotSync operation between Franklin Planner for Microsoft Outlook and your Palm organizer. This installs the Franklin Covey applications to your Palm organizer.
Conduct another HotSync operation to synchronize your information with the newly installed Franklin Covey applications.
