Welcome
hat a difference twelve
months make. When I think
about what we’ve covered
in this time and with a whole
brand spanking new year ahead of us again,
I’m getting really excited about the new
models waiting for us. Of course we’ve had
a few sneak peeks in recent dispatches,
heard some rumours and probably started a
wish list. But just days after I’m writing this,
it starts to get real as I’m off down to see
Oxford Diecast for a glimpse of a large chunk
of the early 2015 range. A couple of weeks
after that, we’ve been promised news of
Corgi’s exciting line up. Then at the end of
January it’s Nuremberg; I love this time of
year! Not that it’s all about the new stuff,
in 2014 I managed to pick up some of my
favourites from my childhood (in a lot better
condition than I left my originals in!) plus
some that are in need of a little Rick magic
to coax them back to the displayability
level required to be added to the Wilson’s
Wonders Collection. But here we have
that old problem again, at what point is a
model deemed to be nicely playworn, with
sufficient original charm to escape the paint
stripper? I guess it’s a personal thing but for
me it does need to be only lightly playworn,
with no real unsightly chips or cracked glass.
One of my old favourites was the Matchbox
Super Kings Hoveringham Foden Tipper.
These all seemed to have been worked hard
in the quarries of our back gardens (mine
was), so it’s ok to have a slightly battered
model in the collection because that’s how
they looked after a short working period in
real life. But that’s my thing, realism. A big
fan of dioramas for display, I have a few that
I will be sharing with you in 2015 but you
can start with our new Reader Offer on page
38; a very versatile kit! So whether it’s new
or old, boxed or displayed, this coming year
will surely have plenty for us to get excited
about and we have some really great articles
lined up too. So I’d best get straight to work...
