TO YOUR ROUTINE
Welcome back to the Inner Circle,
listeners.
Last time, you learned how to
double your speaking time – by
adding structure! More specifically,
how you can apply our audio and
video lessons to conversations.
This helped me reach 30 minutes
of Spanish conversation last month.
This time, I’m going into a lighter
topic. Why? Let’s be honest.
Learning language isn’t always easy.
So, in between serious study
sessions, fun and “non-intensive”
methods are a great change of pace
that keep you motivated and make
learning fun. In my case, I’ve been
using Netflix to speak more Spanish.

Last month, I hit my yearly goal of
30 minutes of Spanish conversation.
AND SPANISHPOD101 LESSONS REALLY DID THE TRICK.
I used them for talking points in my in-person lessons
– the culture, the grammar, the dialogues. Without
them, I’d probably be around 24 or 25 minutes now.
But now that I’ve hit my goal... do I give up?
I’ve thought about it. But, just because I hit my yearly
goal, doesn’t mean I should stop. Putting that much
time into Spanish made it part of my lifestyle. At this
point, it’s easy to keep going. Have you ever
experienced this?
And recently, I’ve been really getting more and more
into Spanish shows on Netflix. So far, it has been one of
the most enjoyable ways to learn.
Let’s get into the first point.
You’re right. It’s not a heavy, intensive, blood-sweat-
and-tears type of learning. And that’s a good thing.
Fun, non-intensive ways, like watching TV and movies
or listening to music in your target language can be a
valuable part of your learning. Why?
You’re probably thinking... Learning by watching TV?
Really?

WHY YOU SHOULD ADD FUN, NON-INTENSIVE
LEARNING TO YOUR ROUTINE.
There are several reasons and they’re all closely related.
You’ll see why immediately.
First, language learning can be tough.
You can’t
be “ON” and studying hard 100% of the time. That’s
the fastest way to burn out and quit. If you remember
my failed goals before, they typically resulted from
attempting big, demanding requirements that I
couldn’t fulfill. Adding something light will be a
breath of fresh air.
Second, it’s fun.
Enthusiasm and attitude makes a
world of a di erence in anything you do. Sadly,
enthusiasm doesn’t last long when you’re digging
through grammar books. With fun, easy methods, it’s
easier to stay engaged and enthusiastic about
language. And... things are just less of a hassle when
they’re fun.
Third, you don’t waste time.
While you take a break
from more intensive studies, listening to music in your
target language (for example) keeps you immersed.
You might learn a bit less, but you’re still engaging
with your language and making some progress, even
if it’s just training your ear.
