Welcome to the first-ever electronic magazine from
Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts!
We are excited
to share with you 40 pages of all-new patterns and
projects to help make your home’s holidays more
special.
It was tempting to fill the pages with ornaments—
and we do have nearly 50 individual ornament
patterns—but we know you love to make other things,
too. We’ve included a pretty nativity plaque, a cute
cherub puzzle, elegant angel cutouts, a Santa puzzle
playset, and a clever intarsia advent calendar that will help you count
the days ’til Christmas.

computer, so they should fit neatly
onto 81/2" by 11" paper. You can use
your computer’s PDF program (such
as Adobe Reader) to print just the
patterns you plan to use, and to
print as many copies as you need of
the patterns you like. (Note: If you
are reading this on an iPad or other
tablet, you may need to print screen
shots of the patterns and resize
them on a photocopier. Kindle users
should probably view the magazine
using the Kindle app on a computer
and, likewise, print screen shots.)
Despite that flexibility, I hope you will refrain from sharing the
digital files with your friends and fellow scrollers. Although we have
not paid for paper, printing, and postage for this issue, there are still
many costs associated with its creation—designers, photography,
pattern preparation, and editorial and layout time. As much as we
enjoy creating projects like this for you, we are still a business that
needs to sell its products in order to keep making them. If you like
what you see, please encourage others to buy their own download. If
we get a great response, perhaps we’ll be able to do this again!
Speaking of which, please let us know what you think of our
e-magazine. Did we get the mix right? How is the timing? Was it easy
to download? Could you print the patterns OK? Is it a good value
for the money? And, finally, if we offered a digital magazine—either
an electronic version of the print product or, like this, a completely
different magazine that was only delivered electronically—would you
subscribe? We can’t wait to hear what you think!

Awesome Angel Trio
Devoted angels stand watch
for the arrival of Christmas

C
elebrate the beauty of the Christmas
season with these standing angels.
Cut three angels for a simple display, or
stack-cut the blanks to create a choir.
Either way, these angels are perfect for
centerpieces and other holiday displays.
Making the Angels
Use a light-colored hardwood
or Baltic birch plywood. Drill
blade-entry holes and cut the
frets. Then, cut the perimeter.
Sand away any fuzzies and apply
a clear finish. Display the angels
by making a custom wooden stand,
placing them in frame or plate stands,
attaching a hanger, or simply leaning
them against something.

• Light-colored hardwood or Baltic birch
plywood, 1/4" to 1/2" (6mm to 13mm) thick:
standing angel, 81/2" x 11" (216mm
x 279mm); kneeling angels, 2 each 61/2" x 8"
(165mm x 203mm)
• Sandpaper
• Finish
• Stand OR small hanger and epoxy
(optional)
Tools:
• Blades: #1 reverse-tooth
• Drill with assorted small bits
The author used these products for the project.
