From the Editor
When readers have emailed me to say that
they’re biding their time before upgrading to
Windows 10, one of their main reasons for
delaying is that they’re waiting until there’s
enough good software to run on it. Well, I
think that time is now. Since August’s
Anniversary Update we’ve had a flurry of
brilliant programs – new and updated – that
improve the operating system’s built-in tools.
In our Cover Feature (page 50), Jane Hoskyn
reveals the software she has installed – all for
free – and urges you to follow suit.
I’ve taken her advice, and have spent the past
few days testing the health of my hard drive
(with HDD Guardian), zapping old files (with
FolderShredder) and recovering long-forgotten
passwords (with CredentialsFileView). I realise
these aren’t the kind of activities to excite those
who count paragliding and white-water rafting
among their hobbies, but I derived immense
satisfaction from them. I hope you do too.

short and simple. They aren’t websites
themselves, which means they won’t
be recognised if you type them into

into your browser address bar, then
