Step 7.
With 3 strands of matching embroidery floss,
work buttonhole stitch around appliqués. Chain-stitch
veins on leaves.
Step 8.
Referring to photo, use water-soluble marker
to draw vining tendrils around leaves and flowers.
Chain-stitch traced lines with 3 strands of green
embroidery floss.

• Scraps of navy, gold and green for appliqué
• Navy, gold and green 6-strand embroidery floss
to match appliqué scraps
• Scraps of fusible transfer web
• Water-soluble marker
• All-purpose threads to match fabrics
• Basic sewing supplies and tools
Instructions
Note:

12" Pillow
Step 1.
Fold 13" x 13" muslin square in half diagonal-
ly. From cream print cut a triangle the same size as the
folded muslin triangle, adding

" to the long diagonal
side for seam allowance.
Step 2.
From cream print fabric cut one strip 3" x
12", two strips 3" x 8" and 2 strips 3" x 4". From red
print cut two strips each 3" x 10" and 3" x 6". Arrange
pieces as shown in Fig. 1 and sew.
Step 3.
Using the folded muslin triangle as a pattern,
cut a triangle from the strips sewn in Step 2, adding

From navy print cut two pieces 10" x 15".
Finish pillow as in Steps 10 and 11 above.

Buttonhole Stitch
Chain Stitch
Step 9.
Cut two 5" strips across width of navy print.
Join short ends to make a circle. Fold circle in half,
bringing raw edges together; press. Divide circle in
four equal parts and mark with pins. Sew four sets of
gathering stitches that begin and end at each segment.
Pull up gathers and sew a gathered segment to each
edge of pillow top, aligning raw edges.
Step 10.
From navy print cut two pieces 9" x 13". Hem
one 13" side of each piece. With right sides together,
pin backing pieces to pillow top, overlapping hemmed
backing edges at center. Stitch around perimeter.
Step 11.
Turn right side out and insert pillow form
to finish.
14" Pillow
Step 1.
From cream print fabric cut three strips 3"
x 15". From red print fabric cut four strips 3" x 15".
Arrange pieces as shown in Fig. 2 and sew.
