Bunny Flight Basket

Not only a sweet Easter basket, but filled with goodies of any kind this basket
makes a great presentation for any spring gift occasion.

over it with a wide zigzag stitch. Backstitch at begin-
ning and end. Do not catch heavy thread in stitches.
Step 4.
Pull both ends of heavy thread to gather each
line of stitching. Adjust gathers evenly until lining fits
inside of basket at top and bottom. Pins will help hold
lining against basket while adjusting fit. When fit is
correct, tie thread ends to secure.
Step 5.
Apply glue to top gathering line, a few inches
at a time, and press to inside rim of basket so lining

inches at a time, to basket bottom. Pull lining down
taut and press gathers to glue.

• 9" white fabric-covered floral wire
• Cardboard to fit bottom of basket
• Batting to fit bottom of basket
• Polyester fiberfill
• Heavy buttonhole or carpet thread
• All-purpose threads to match fabrics
• Hot-glue gun and glue sticks
• Basic sewing supplies and tools
Step 6.
Place basket on cardboard and trace around it.
Mark a line

basket thickness. Cut on inside line. Place cardboard
in basket to check fit. Adjust if necessary. Use card-
board as pattern to cut batting. Glue batting to one
side of cardboard.
Step 7.
Place cardboard on a piece of lining fabric and
cut fabric 2" larger all around. Hand-sew a gathering
line around fabric

" from edge. Place cardboard bat-
ting side down on wrong side of fabric and pull gath-
ers to bring fabric around edge of cardboard. Knot
thread and clip. Apply glue to basket bottom and push
cardboard in place, padded fabric side up.
Step 8.
For yo-yo flowers, cut one 4

" circles from coordinating color
scraps. Using a matching doubled thread, hand-sew a
gathering stitch around the edge of each circle. Pull
the gathers tightly to close the center of the circle.
Knot, but do not clip thread. Flatten the circle with
your fingers and adjust so hole is in the center of the
circle. Using same thread, sew a button to the center
of each yo-yo over the hole.
Instructions
Step 1.
Measure circumference of basket and multiply

" for length of lining strip. It will probably be
necessary to piece two lengths of fabric to obtain the
desired length. For width of lining strip measure the
depth of the basket and add 3

". For example, the
model basket has a circumference of 24" and is 4

height. The strip should measure 8" x 60".
Step 2.
With right sides of lining strip facing, stitch
short ends together forming a tube. Press seam allow-
ance open.
Step 3.
Fold one long edge of lining 2" to the wrong

together. Trace leaf pattern three times on one side of
doubled fabric. Sew on traced lines, leaving open at
bottom. Cut out close to stitching line and trim point.

trim ends in a V-cut. Using photo as a guide, arrange
bow, flowers and leaves on one side of basket, turning
and twisting ribbon streamers and tucking raw edge of
leaves under flowers. When satisfied with the arrange-
ment, glue in place.
Step 11.
Fold white knit fabric in half and trace rabbit
pattern on one side of doubled fabric. Sew all around
on traced lines. Do not leave an opening. Cut out

from seam; clip curves. Cut a slash on one side only
where indicated by line on pattern. Turn rabbit right
side out through slash. Stuff evenly with polyester
fiberfill and close slash with hand stitches. Sew bead
to each side of face for eyes, pulling thread gently to
indent eye area.
Step 12.
Cut fabric-covered floral wire in half and
tack the middle of both wires to tip of rabbit nose.
Glue the pink pompom over wire centers. Curl wire
ends. Glue white pompom to rabbit for tail.
Step 13.

in the middle. Trim ends in a V-cut. Arrange and glue
streamer bow and knots to rabbit as shown. Glue rab-
bit to front of basket handle.
