One of the best parts of being the Editor of
Popular Patchwork is being able to talk about
quilts all day without being asked to change the
subject! And it is always a such pleasure to be asked
give a talk to groups or teach a workshop where I can
meet others who have a passion for quilting as well. We generally
start with a discussion of what projects people are working on, then this
is usually followed by descriptions of fabrics and blocks. More often than
not the conversation turns to a description of the person the quilt is being
made for: from the dad who is bound to let the pampered long-haired
hello...

dog share the quilt, to the teenage grand-daughter who only likes black
and white fabric. I love hearing these stories, there are lots of very lucky
friends and family who receive the gifts we make with love. When I give
quilts to my family and friends I like to feel that every time they wrap up
in them I am giving them a hug, and it is clear many of you feel the same.
Quilting is a hobby very much rooted in a tradition of love and sharing,
and that is what we have chosen as the theme for our February issue.
We have projects to make for loved ones of all ages, a guide to using
children’s pictures to create applique motifs, and there are some warming
stories for you to enjoy.
