Once you have your videos created, your channel set up and branded, it’s time to
publish your videos. When publishing your videos, you’ll want to optimize them
to give you an advantage in the YouTube search results.

When publishing a video, we can optimize it around keywords to attract views
from the YouTube search results. You’ve done it before… you use YouTube to
search for something. If your video is optimized around keywords, and your
video ranks well, you’re going to attract daily views to your videos and channel.
You should look to optimize…
The File Name
– Simply change the name of your video to your main
keyword. So it could be ‘six pack workout for women.mp4’
The Video Title
– Create an easy reading title that includes 2 – 4 related
keywords.
The Video Description
– Hugely important, and an area for you to optimize
your video letting YouTube know exactly what your video is about. Treat it as a
blog post, and aim for over 250 words including your main keyword alongside
other related terms. If you want to include a call to action and a link, include it
within the first sentence.
Video Tags
– Add your keywords as tags, alongside other related terms
alongside YouTube’s suggestions. You could also view the source file of a popular
related video, and copy the tags they use.
Closed Captions (Transcription)
– Again, YouTube can’t hear what your
saying so providing a transcription of your video will help optimize it.
Video Optimization
The Category
– Make sure you put your video in the most relevant category.
There are various keyword tools out there, but here are some free solutions.

TIP:
Targeting the highest volume searches aren’t always the best way to go.
Target keywords with around 200 searches a month, as this will involve lower
competition. Going for the lower searched keywords, but then opting for quantity
your views will amount up.
Once you’ve chosen some keywords to optimize your video around, you’ll want
to find out how competitive the term is and how well other videos are optimized.
A quick YouTube search for the keyword will bring up the top ranking results.
Check Competition
Here’s what you need to consider:
Is the keyword you searched for in the title of the top few videos ranking for that
term? If not, this is good for us.
Is the keyword in the title?
Is the keyword, alongside other related keywords in the video description? Also how
long is the video description of the top ranking videos?
Is the keyword in the description?
How many views does the video have?
How many likes vs. dislikes?
Another ranking factor is likes vs. dislikes. Is the video popular? Gaining a lot of
likes?
How many views do the top ranking videos have? The more they have, potentially
the more competitive the term.
How many subscribers does the channel have?
Has the video been published by an authority channel?
All of the above are factors to determine how competitive the term is to rank.
Yes, we can outrank these using the promotional strategies you’ll discover but
often opting for lower competition keywords will help massively.
It’s extremely important to use custom thumbnails.
They’ll improve your click through rate, and will attract more attention and more
views to your videos.
You can create them yourself, use the custom thumbnail templates within the
member’s area or use free online sources such as Thumbnail Templates.
