Installing ---------- In the zip, there is a file called Setup.exe, which should be run to install this version of fishing simulator 2. Un-installing ------------- Once installed, fishsim 2 can be removed by using the "uninstall" option from the start menu. Please note though that any files generated or imported into fishing simulator will not be removed. These should be removed manually. Running ------- To run fishsim 2, select Fishsim2 from the windows start menu, then Fishing simulator 2 from the sub menu. You may receive a Microsoft message on startup saying "dinput failed to initialise", or something to that effect. This indicates that Direct x 7 or higher is not installed on your PC. Most PC's have it, but if not, this can be downloaded freely from www.microsoft.com Requirements ------------ 300 Mhz pentium processor minimum, it may work on less, but performance will be affected. A sound card, 16 Mb memory and video card with more than 2 MB of memory is required. It must have directx 7 or higher drivers and please check that these are the latest drivers for your hardware, if problems occur. A minimum of 8 MB of hard disk space is required, more if addon's are added. Brief Instructions ( there is a full manual in the game ) --------------------------------------------------------- Please consult the manual in the library for a lot more information. When you run Fishsim2 for the first time, you will be asked to enter your name on the club membership books. After you have done this, your name will appear on the main book. Press the continue button to go to the main menu. To go fishing straight away, click the "go fishing" button. You will then be taken to the venue and peg selection screen. The venue will be set as the River Lot, as it is the only one installed. The peg will be set to "peg 2". You can change the peg by clicking on the peg name "peg 2". There is one other option available, "peg 3". When you have selected your peg, click the "Go fishing" button, and you will be taken there. The connect button is also active for fishing in online sessions. The default controls at your peg are : Casting ------- Press and hold the right mouse button, with the rod facing in the direction you wish to cast. For longer casts, start the rod tip close to the water and hold the right mouse button down for a long time. The rod will lift as you hold the button down. When you feel you have the correct power for the cast, release the right mouse button and your bait will be cast out. Under arm casts can be achieved by starting the rod tip in a high position before you press the right mouse button. Reeling in ---------- Use the left mouse button to reel in. You don't have to reel in before recasting. If you reel with the balearm off, it will click on automatically. If you are reeling in slowly, you can adjust the reel speed with the [ and ] keys. Striking -------- When a bite comes, you should wait until you feel it's the right time to strike. This is normally when the float is being pulled by the fish ( not released ), or the swingtip or quivertip is being pulled, when ledgering. At this point, swipe the mouse back, sharply to tighten the line ( make sure the balearm is on though ). If the fish is hooked, you will imediately know, because the line will start to "wriggle", and a landing net will appear by your feet. Use the left mouse button and the rod to play and land the fish. Quick strike ------------ The centre mouse button or the 'Z' key can be used to perform a quick strike, when there is a bite. It will put the balearm on, if off, and raise the rod sharply, when pressed. Groundbait ---------- To groundbait, press the 'G' key, position the crosshair, and press the right mouse button to catapult the bait out. Loosefeed --------- This is the same as groundbait, but instead using the 'L' key to throw out the loosefeed. Balearm on/off -------------- The 'B' key can be used to toggle the balearm on and off. Change bait ----------- You can change your hookbait, loosefeed or groundbait by pressing the 'c' key and selecting another bait from the bait boxes. Change tackle ------------- The 'T' key can be used to change tackle, and take you to the tackle screen. You can fish with two rods in fishsim two. To do this, select the "rod two" button at the bottom right of the tackle screen, then the "Rods" tab. Check the "use two rods" option. The second rod can only be used for ledgering though. Keepnet ------- Press the ENTER key at any time while fishing and providing there are fish in your net, you will see a list of all that have been caught so far. Stop fishing ------------ The 'ESC' key can be used to return to the main menu. Place rod on rod rest --------------------- The 'Left CTRL' key on the keyboard can be used to settle the rod on the rod rest. Before doing this, hold the rod tip close to the water, you will hear a click and the rod will be locked in place. You can make slow movements with the mouse without affecting the rod. To take the rod off, make a swift mouse movement. Letting line out ---------------- To let line off the reel slowly while fishing, press the PAGE UP key, this is useful when ledgering and the rod is on the rest to set the line at the correct tension for the detector. Changing rods ------------- When fishing with two rods, you can only hold one at a time, the other will be on a rod rest. If you need to change the rod you are holding press the 'SPACEBAR' on the keyboard. A small red dot by the butt of the rod indicates which rod you are currently holding. If the graphic of the angler is turned on, then the rod which is being held will be more obvious. Switching rods -------------- To switch rods, use the 'S' key. This will swap the rods, the 2nd rod will appear on the left of the angler, and the first on the right. Pressing 'S' again will switch them back. Sending messages ( online fishing only ) ---------------------------------------- When fishing online you can send messages to other anglers by pressing the 'F7' key. A white box will appear to enable you to type the message into. After finishing typing the message, press the 'ENTER' key to send it. Notes while fishing ------------------- While fishing, try to keep the line relatively tight, this will enable you to strike more effectively when bites come. With the ledger tip indicators, the line has to remain relatively tight to detect bites. Reeling in fish. Although the landing net appears, it is not used yet. You will have to reel in each fish, so the "lineout" at the top reaches zero. Don't use heavy tackle, or strong line, if it can be avoided. Don't use large hooks with small baits. Don't throw in too much groundbait or loosefeed, there's a fine balance. Enjoy the fishing. Tackle selection and other options ---------------------------------- The tackle selection screen is complex, just like fishing, and to explain it fully, will take a few pages of a manual. However, it is pretty straight-forward to understand though after a while. Add-on's -------- Add-on's can consist of new venues, pegs, fish species, tackle, bait, just about everything. The first version of fishsim currently has around 500 different pegs to fish from, and 40 species of fish, as well as a whole host of different tackle and baits to choose from. Fishsim 2 will also have the equivelent if not more add-on's available. Thank you for trying fishsim 2. I hope the game brings many hours of enjoyment. Please be sure to check out the forum on www.fishsim.net for IP addresses to online matches and fishing sessions, as well as news on additional add-on's. Registeration ------------- Registeration details are given at the end of the game. Please note, currently there is no CD version, it is download only. On registeration you will receive a registeration name and code that will unlock the game and allow add-on's to be imported and used. Any add-on's imported in the shareware version will not work, and venues for example will contain no fish. Please note that technical support cannot be guaranteed, although every effort will be made to provide it. Also you are required to use the shareware version for at LEAST 7 days before registeration, this is to avoid any incompatibility problems and to satisfy yourself that you want to register. If sending cheques or postal money orders, please confirm the address on the www.fishsim.net is current before sending. Also please remember to include your name and postal address, and if possible an email address so that the registeration details can be sent out to you quickly. Trouble-shooting and known issues --------------------------------- Direct X 7 or higher is required to run Fishing Simulator 2. If you receive an error when starting Fishing Simulator 2, saying about "DINPUT.DLL", "DDRAW.DLL" etc. this will probably mean that you do not have direct x 7 or higher installed. It is available as a free download from www.microsoft.com, or on many free computer magazine CD ROM's. There is a known issue with some video cards, to do with hardware acceleration. This is currently being looked into. If you start fishing simulator 2 and see the opening screen then it returns to the windows desktop, you will need to reduce the video acceleration for your computer on the windows control panel : To do th...
