Tripartite,

six
years
of
design
and
development, performed
in an
exemplary climate of
mutual understanding, the ERIDAN,
a
common
prototype, has been launched. This is the first
of a series of
40 identical mine hunters, programmed up to 1987.
The
"Tripartite" class
provides the
efficiency, safety
and
discretion which
any
Naval fleet must possess to hunt, locate,
identify and
destroy mines down to depths
of
approximately
100
metres,
for
sea
'states
of
up to force 5.
This modern
craft,
designed from the most
advanced
techniques, is
equipped
with an all resin, glass fibre
complex,
non-magnetic
hull, mine hunting
control and
monitoring equipment,
a hull sonar
for detection
and classification,
a
self-propelled
mine
neutralizing
"fish", a combined
diesel-electric propulsion
system, and
a degaussing system.
In operation, equipment sound
and
vibration
levels meet the
most stringent
NATO
standards.
This
equipment
remains
operational
when the
ship
is
submitted
to
submarine explosions as
defined
in NATO
standards
for particularly
exposed
ships
of
this
type.
The
"Tripartite"
mine hunter is therefore
an essential
component of
any
credible
mine warfare
system.
