Hello everyone,
welcome to the
September 2018
edition of your
favourite aviation
modelling magazine!
his month we are continuing
to do what I think we do
best and that’s looking at
new kits in as much detail
as we can, either in preview
form, or as part of in-depth builds. As
part of that philosophy when applied
to kit builds we have taken a very
detailed look at the Revell-ICM 1:32
Polikarpov I-16 Type 24, the Eduard
1:48 Spitfire Mk.IX the Hasegawa
1:48 Henschel Hs129 and finally,
Revell’s delightful 1:144 Embraer 190.
The Revell I-16 is a core feature
this month and as such it is looked
at in the most depth, 12 pages being
allocated to it’s construction and
painting. Though it is presented
in a form that is photographic in
nature, for a change, this one has
been penned by myself as more of
a written essay, where I hope that
you will enjoy reading about this new
kit release, every bit as much as
you enjoy looking at the images that
accompany it. Being something of a
traditionalist at heart, it was good to
take this approach once more and I
hope to continue it next time around
when I carry out something similar
with the Airfix Wellington. We hope
you approve.

Of course we have looked at
the Eduard 1:48 Spitfire before so
Alan Price’s splendid build and
feature needs precious little in
the way of further introduction or
explanation, which leaves us with
Chris McDowell’s Hs 129, an aircraft
that we have not really looked at in
MAI and so it creates something of
a first for us! Built from the excellent
Hasegawa 1:48 kit, Chris’ model
shows what can be done with a
relatively simply kit, built with care
and attention and little further
recourse to the aftermarket. Of course
there is a stack of updates from the
kit but we are pleased to be able to
strip back our approach and show
what is possible with beginners on a
budget, in mind. Chris’ feature begins
on page 50…
Along with our full builds we also
have a couple of kit previews, one
of a kit that we’ve built before so it’s
good to see it again, Zoukei-Mura’s
1:48 F-4J Phantom and another that’s
brand-new: Eduard’s 1:72 MiG-21.
Following on from their already
much-praised 1:144 and 1:48 kits, this
new offering from Eduard allows fans
of 1:72 aircraft the chance to build
something that is superbly derailed
straight from the box, but with the
addition of some of their update sets,
you will be able to complete a model
that will perhaps be the final say on
this aircraft in this scale. Check out
our preview and see for yourself!
