Visitors at this year’s War and Peace Revival will have inevitably been left doing
some head scratching at the sight of this hard-as-nails-looking tractor unit,
made by Wolverhampton-based Guy Motors. It’s a Quad-Ant, and is thought to
date from 1938. It’s an iconic WW2 vehicle, which served on most fronts, towing
a 25 pounder field gun and limber. Despite this, only a handful survive – which is
probably why most people have never seen one. Having served as a breakdown
truck after the war, this example was abandoned in an outbuilding and is thought
never to have been road registered. It had undergone some restoration work in
the 1980s and was being offered for sale (at £20,000) with a hoard of hard to get
spares for anyone interested in bringing it back to its former glory.
