THIs
work having
been out
of print for
several years,
the
time
seems to have come
for
a new
edition.
The
first
edition
was
necessarily
costly.
I
am
tC)
assured that few books,
if
any,
have been so
diffi'it
print.
It
was not easy to
find
compositors
capable
of
setting
up the
Tables.
The
chief printing
establish
for
types, and after
ments in
Europe were
ransacked
this
had been done many were
wanting,
and these had
to
be
specially engraved
and cast.
-
These
expenses
not
needing
to
be again
incurred,
a
large reduction in
the price
has
now
become possible.
In
the first
edition
I
put forward
several theories,
about
a
score
in
number, such as those
relating
to the
.
origin
of
the
Glagolitic
Alphabet
and of the
Runes,
which,
to the best
of
my belief, were
entirely novel.
It
is a source
of great
satisfaction
to
me that none
of
these
views have had to
be
modified or withdrawn,
