NNL East turns 30 —
and more!
NNL East is
car-modeling’s biggest show, held in New Jersey
each spring. And in 2016, it turned 30 years of age. It’s fitting
that the biggest show had its biggest turnout last April 16, with
hundreds of modelers joining in the fun and quite a few
models decorated with commemorative decals.
Here’s to the Tri-State Scale Model Car Club for its
perseverance and determination building this show into the
giant that it is. It takes a staggering amount of work to
organize and run an event such as this, but on show day it
always seems to run smoothly and efficiently.
In honor of the big show’s biggest day, we present the
biggest coverage we’ve ever had of this show: 10 pages!

Dana Miller built this 1929 Ford Model A hot rod in one month from a
Revell kit. He stripped the chrome and scratchbuilt the interior door
panels. The paint is Testor’s.
“I wanted a rusty relic,” says Ken Reimers, so he built this 1946 Chevy
box-stock in a week from a Galaxie kit. “I rusted up the paint with
water-based craft paint,” he says.
“I’ve had a longtime love affair with tail fins!” says John Berry about
why he built this AMT 1955 Chevy Nomad. It has parts from several
kits, some aftermarket items, and is finished with Rust-Oleum.
Bob Carey says that his 1956 Chevy was a parts-box build, and “a rule-
bending-type car.” It has a 1953 Studebaker hood, a Grand Prix nose,
and a rear-steer chassis.
Keith Reimers built this 1976 Dodge Dart Sport from an MPC kit. He
modified the hood for a Challenger T/A scoop and added Cragar SS
wheels. The paint is Dupli-Color.
Mike Brown’s Chevelle race car and Chevy truck were built from Revell
and AMT kits. “I added a wedge bed to an AMT 1972 Chevy truck,” he
says. The Chevelle has a scratchbuilt roll cage and Ford rear end.
