Taichung mixes old and new,
with plenty of cultural attrac-
tions and a pleasant year-round
climate.
Taiwan Tour Bus
The Taiwan Tour Bus provides tours
from the airport, train station and major
hotels in Taichung. Buses leave at regular
times and visit the main scenic attractions
in and near the city. Several different full-
day tours are offered, including tours to
Miaoli, the Guguan hot spring area,
Cingjing Farm in Nantou, and Sun Moon
Lake National Scenic Area. There are also
tours to scenic Puli, the historic town of
Lugang, the Gukeng coffee-growing area

Tourist Trains
The President One tourist train
heads south from Taipei Main Station with
stops in several well-known visitor sites
along the West Coast. There are seven
routes to choose from.

Getting There
Plane
Mandarin Airlines offers about four
daily flights to Taichung from Songshan
Domestic Airpor t in Taipei between
08:00~17:00. Tickets are NT$1,342 each
way, and the flight takes about 35 mins.

Train
The Zihciang Express train to
Taichung from Taipei Main Station takes
about 2 hours and costs NT$375. The
slower Jyuguang Express is NT$289 and
take 2.5 hours; and the Fusing and com-
muter trains are NT$241 for a three hour

Bus
Several bus companies offer service
to Taichung from the Taipei Main Bus
Station, including King Bus (NT$245~
260), Dragon (NT$380), Ubus (NT$260~
290), and Free Go (NT$300). The trip
takes 2.5~3 hours.
Getting Around the City
City Bus
The five bus companies in Taichung
charge a basic fare of NT$20 and half
fare of NT$10, with rates rising for longer
trips. Discounts are given to riders using
the city's prepaid "e-Card."
Taxi
Taxis in Taichung charge by the
meter at a base fare of NT$75-up for the
first 1.5km and NT$5 for each extra
250m. There is an NT$5 fee for every 3
minutes the cab is moving at under
5km/hr, as well as nighttime and holiday
surcharges.

Scenic sites
The scenic hot springs of
Guguan are fed by slightly
alkaline carbonic acid waters.
There are both Japanese and
western-style spa hotels here,
many of them long established.
From Taichung Railway Station, take a
Ren Yeou bus 10, 30, or 40, get off at the
intersection of Wunsin and Nantun roads,
and walk about 10 minutes.

from Taichung Train Station take the
Dongshih-bound Fongyuan Bus to Guguan.
This area is characterized by
shaded sidewalks that provide an
atmosphere of nature within the
city. The beautiful street extends
from the National Museum of

dining and drinking choices.

Lugang has preserved its his-
toric roots in both architecture
and traditional shops selling

This shopping area centered
on Feng Chia University
attracts crowds of students to its
