This is Honda’s year. Period. OK so the
F1 collaboration got off to, shall we say,
a less than ideal start with only one car
finishing, or even truly starting the race.
Finishing in 11th. That doesn’t sound all
that bad for a first outing, but it hasn’t
really got any better since then.
Nevertheless, we still have high
expectations for a better conclusion to the
race season than we had start. Whilst
the chances of McLaren-Honda becoming
true front runners this year is at best
slim, we can only hope for some great
results and the team to grow and learn.
Speaking of racing, the new BTCC car, still
piloted by Matt Neal and Gordon Sheddon,
has changed again. Ditching the Estate
for a version based on the all new Civic
Type R. Nice! It looks fantastic and we
hope it resembles their last championship
winning car from 2013 and not the ill-
fated Estate experiment, that although we
loved its looks and the stones shown by
Honda and Yuasa in using it, didn’t exactly
perform as well as we’d have hoped.
Moving from the race prepped version
of Honda’s impending Civic Type R, to
the actual car itself. It seems month
after month there are new pieces of
information, pictures or statistics about
the new CTR (and its big brother NSX).
We’ve been told its lap time around the
Nurburgring for one and it was very
impressive indeed at 7:20. For those less
likely to travel to Germany for a lap on a

race track, some other vital information
has been given to us by Honda. Check it
out in a special ‘Whats New’ section.
The final CTR look has also been unveiled
and you can see it on page 10 (along with
the new NSX, which is also above). The
opinions have been split on this one, many
arguing that it doesn’t look much like
the prototype. Personally, I think it looks
pretty close. Closer than my skeptic mind
believed it ever would. The appearance,
performance figures and lap time of the
Nurburgring are all things in the car’s
favour in my personal opinion. The price
point misses the mark slightly for me but
it still remains a lot of car for the money,
regardless of my opinion on that figure.
Oh yes, magazine. Yes, must talk about
the magazine. As always its a bumper
issue filled with the best Honda goodness
from across the world. Not really news
is it? Hence the NSX and new CTR took
up the majority of this, but its all fantastic
Honda goodness from here folks!
We do have a great article on Ariel,
creators of the legendary, K20 powered
Atom, to accompany the usual feature
car and report goodness. We had a blast
hanging out with the folk at Ariel and
showing what a Honda engine can do. We
hope you enjoy another great issue.
