Chapter 1: Getting
Started
Introduction
With the advent of the Internet and digital photography, graphic-
editing programs have become a necessity. 602Photo was created
to meet this need. 602Photo is a program that allows you to edit
digital images.
It is our goal, that by reading this manual, you will become more
acquainted with the tools inside 602Photo and as a result gain an
understanding that will allow you to create and edit images that
represent the full expression of your work.
The manual has been divided into four chapters that increase in the
level complexity. You begin by learning the most basic tools and
work your way up to the advanced tools inside 602Photo. The
manual is divided into four chapters:
Chapter 1: Getting Started - Here you will learn elementary
features of 602Photo. It covers topics such as opening, saving,
and printing.
Chapter 2: Basic Image Editing - Covers basic image editing
tools and techniques.
Chapter 3: Intermediate Image Editing - This chapter will
cover intermediate editing tools and techniques. A must for
digital camera users.
Chapter 4: Advanced Image Editing - This chapter covers
advanced editing techniques like color and hue modification.
Each chapter will include relevant tips and will conclude with a
small exercise to help reinforce your knowledge of 602Photo.
Images
An image file is a picture or photograph that has been saved onto
your computer in a digital format. A digital camera or scanner
usually creates these types of files. When an image is saved into
the computer for the first time it must be converted into a digital
format using a specific algorithm. This algorithm will define the
characteristics of the image such as size and resolution. As you
learn more about digital images you will discover that there is a
trade off between size and resolution. Generally speaking an image

with a high resolution usually has a larger size while images with
lower resolution have a smaller size.
Technological advances have made it possible to create files of
high resolution while maintaining a relatively small size. These
types usually employ some type of compression algorithm that
allow it to maintain a small size, but generally some of the original
image information is lost.
Opening an
image
602Photo can open many types of images. To open an image press
the
Open
button or use the
Open file
dialog in the
File
menu. If an
image has been associated to 602Photo, you may double click on
that image to open it in 602Photo.
The five buttons in the left section of the dialogue allow you to
choose the way files and folders are viewed and the source of the
file in the Open dialogue:
Desktop –
Displays the documents or folders that are on
the Windows desktop. It also displays the

icon and
Network neighborhood
icon from which you can
access documents on a local drive or network folder.
Folders
– Standard file and folder view typical to the
Windows system dialogues. Documents are displayed in
the form of small previews that can be zoomed by clicking
the zoom symbol in the bottom right corner of the preview.
You can use the buttons in the top right section of the
dialogue to change the display mode of the dialogue to
List
or
Details.

Albums
– Allows you to insert an image from a
602Album to a document or insert a file or document from
602Album.
eDock
– Allows you to save a document to a folder in the
eDock document storage system. This feature is only
available when the eDock Windows client is installed and
properly configured on your computer. eDock is an add-on
to PC SUITE that offers document sharing and full-text
index/search with access from the Internet and Intranet.
Find
– Allows you to search for a document in the eDock
document storage system. This feature is only available
when the eDock Windows client is installed and properly
configured on your computer. The feature is useful if you
need to find if a document of the given name already exists
and where it is located in eDock. A list of queries appears
in the
Look in:
field. If you want to enter a new query,
click the button with red question mark. Buttons with
yellow question marks show recently saved queries. There
is an option to add each new query to the list of queries by
checking the box
Add to the list of queries.
Views
– Use this button to switch to Detail or List view. If
the folder that you opened contains many files, you should
use Detail or List view to increase performance. Using the
Thumbnail preview can be time consuming if the folder has
many files.
The
Open
dialog has been designed for ease of use. From it, you
can access files that are on a shared network or local drive.
