Mac OS X provides PDF creation capabilities. If I’m running Mac OS X, do I still need Acrobat 6.0
software?
Adobe recognizes there are many different ways to create PDF files, and customers should create a PDF docu-
ment in the manner that best fits their particular needs and workflow. The Mac OS offers the ability to quickly
create a PDF document through the print dialog box. However, if customers are interested in creating Adobe
PDF documents for professional or pre-press workflows, Adobe recommends Acrobat 6.0 Professional for the
greatest control over how the file is created. Acrobat 6.0 Professional also contains powerful features that go
well beyond Adobe PDF creation. For example, valuable preflighting and advanced print features ensure
reliable print output. In addition, Acrobat 6.0 Professional is required for creating interactive forms, initiating
automated document reviews, adding security to Adobe PDF documents, and much more.
Do Acrobat 6.0 Professional and Acrobat 6.0 Standard run natively in Mac OS X?
Yes, Acrobat 6.0 Professional and Acrobat 6.0 Standard run natively in Mac OS X. Acrobat Distiller is now also
Mac OS X native.
What is the pricing and availability for products in the Acrobat 6.0 family?
Acrobat 6.0 Professional and Acrobat 6.0 Standard for Windows 98 Second Edition (Acrobat 6.0 Standard
only), Windows NT® Workstation 4.0 (with service pack 6), Windows 2000 Professional (with service pack 2),
Windows XP Home, Professional and Tablet PC Editions, and Mac OS X v.10.2.2, are expected to ship in
English by the end of May 2003. Acrobat 6.0 Professional will be available for an estimated street price of
US$449. Registered users of Acrobat 4.0 and Acrobat 5.0 can upgrade to Acrobat 6.0 Professional for an esti-
mated street price of US$149. Acrobat 6.0 Standard will be available for an estimated street price of US$299.
Registered users of Acrobat 4.0 and Acrobat 5.0 can upgrade to Acrobat 6.0 Standard for an estimated street
price of US$99. The products also will be available through Adobe’s licensing programs.
Acrobat Elements for Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0 (with service pack 6),
Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows XP, is immediately available in English, French, German, and Japa-
nese language versions. The product, available exclusively through Adobe’s licensing programs, begins at
US$28 per seat for a 1,000 seat license.
Acrobat 6.0 Professional and Acrobat 6.0 Standard support Mac OS X v.10.2.2 or higher only. Why?
Many creative professionals are loyal to the Mac platform and are adopting Mac OS X. In an effort to support
this commitment to the platform and provide the best experience and support for our customers, Acrobat 6.0
Professional and Acrobat 6.0 Standard will only support Mac OS X v.10.2.2 and higher.
What is PDF/X and how is it supported in the Acrobat 6.0 product line?
PDF/X, a subset of the PDF specification created by Adobe, eliminates many of the color, font and trapping
variables that lead to printing problems. PDF/X is an ISO standard developed by the Committee for Graphic
Arts Technologies Standards (CGATS). Acrobat 6.0 Professional supports PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-3 with built-
in PDF/X compliance checking, reporting and output via its preflighting feature and PDF/X Distiller settings.

How do the Acrobat 6.0 product line and Adobe PDF support XML?
Through support for XML, Adobe Acrobat 6.0 makes it easy to capture and exchange form data with enter-
prise systems. With Acrobat forms, users can include business logic and routing based on user-defined XML
in the form data, offering the ability to integrate their document workflows with their core business systems.
Acrobat also supports eXtensible metadata platform (XMP) for embedding meaningful information to de-
scribe the content or characteristics of the file for advanced searching and integration with content manage-
ment systems. Additionally, users can also create tagged Adobe PDF files that preserve document structure to
enable both the easy re-use of content and the ability to make documents more accessible to users with dis-
abilities.

Why did Adobe decide to re-name Acrobat Reader to Adobe Reader?
Adobe Reader has been re-named to reflect its role as the Adobe viewing platform for everything from tradi-
tional business documents and forms to Photoshop® Album slide shows, eCards, eBooks, and embedded
multimedia.
Is Acrobat 6.0 software accessible to people with disabilities? Are Adobe PDF files created from
Acrobat 6.0 accessible to people with disabilities?
Both Acrobat 6.0 Professional and Acrobat 6.0 Standard let users create and optimize tagged Adobe PDF
files—documents that remain true to the original, but also retain crucial information about the underlying
structure of the files such as chapters, sections and body text. As a result, Adobe PDF documents can be made
accessible to people with disabilities, such as blindness or low vision, using standard Windows and Mac OS
text synthesis capabilities, and screen reader software. Adobe PDF documents can even be made accessible on
PDAs and data-enabled cell phones.
